A training for parents, caregivers and professionals who serve adoptive, foster and kinship families
There are many challenges to being an adoptive and/or foster parent. In particular, managing your own inner responses can be difficult when faced with your adoptive or foster child’s needs. Join Barbara Nordstrom-Loeb, licensed Marriage and Family Therapist as she offers caregivers physiological and neuro-logically-based techniques that assist with self-regulation, resilience and self-calming skills that are helpful when parenting in tough situations. Learning effective and appropriate self-directed techniques can be an essential addition to any parenting ‘tool box.’ Parents will learn about the relationship between self-regulation and improved parenting while experiencing body movement-based exercises that provides inner peace when faced with stressful situations.
Barbara Nordstrom-Loeb is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with additional expertise as a board certified dance/movement psychotherapist and Somatic/Body Therapist. She also has trained in body/mind techniques that facilitate well-being and improved functioning for individuals under stress. Nordstrom-Loeb works with clients who have experienced trauma and related issues such as stress, depression or anxiety. She also teaches at the University of Minnesota and Augsburg College and has recently returned from teaching at the University of Tallinn in Estonia, on a U.S. Fulbright Scholar’s grant.
