Description

(April 2022)  Child welfare workers and agencies have a responsibility to assist adoptive, foster, and kinship parents to facilitate open adoptions and placements for the health and positive wellbeing of the children. Based on Lori Holden’s Open Adoption Grid, Angela Tucker and Lori Holden present an animated short film that provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the Inclusive Family Support Model and how it applies to families formed through adoption and foster care: infant, foster, international, and kinship. The IFSM reveals four quadrants of openness that every type of family will fall within: Closed, Mediated, Spirit of Openness, and Inclusive. This presentation is based on the theoretical model conceived and published by adoptees JaeRan Kim, PhD, and Angela Tucker, and is conceptualized through the theoretical perspectives of family systems theory, ambiguous loss and disenfranchised grief, and the transtheoretical model of change. This webinar will provide tools for professionals to utilize with the families they serve. The tools will help determine where families may be in the Inclusive Family Model and how to create openness regardless of physical contact with biological family members.
