Post-Secondary Educational Benefits
Youth adopted from foster care or who are currently in foster care may qualify for certain post-secondary educational benefits. Youth may qualify for benefits based on age when adopted, if they are in extended foster care until age 21, if they have American Indian heritage, or if their family meets certain income guidelines.
This resource provides details on those specific educational benefits as well as a link to a wide variety of scholarships offered by Minnesota institutions.

The Adoption Assistance Program (North Star)
For more information regarding the North Star Adoption Assistance program please visit the Minnesota Department of Human Services North Star Adoption Assistance Program info page and/or watch the free webinar below.
Northstar Care webinar (run time 1 hr, 24 mins) August 2017*
*Since recording the webinar, there is one small change we need to make you aware of. On slide #11, it states that ALL children will be applicable as of 10/1/17 and while that’s still accurate, it only goes through 12/31/17. Effective 1/1/18, the applicable age is 2 years old.
If you have any questions about this, please contact the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
