I offer you my help based on almost 20 years as a therapist, a consultant for schools and counties around the twin cities, and a post-secondary educator.

If you’ve participated in therapy in the past, or know someone who has, you know doubt know that depth and quality of the therapeutic relationship is a key to success. As a therapist my philosophy is to always help my clients feel heard, and “feel felt”.  Whether you are 13, 30 or 90 years old, I consider it an honor to be included in even a small part of your journey.

I have worked successfully with children over the age of 10 years old, adolescents, adults, couples and families. I am a systems thinker and have found great success working with all populations in the context of the family or other institutions.

The work that I have done with individual adults and couples has been very rewarding.  I tend to have a rather pragmatic approach to therapy in that I look at each individual very holistically.  I have a passion for understanding, teaching and proving through results the truth that therapy is not “just talking”.  My client’s very commonly come to experience the power that they have to actually change the structure and circuitry of their brains and nervous systems through intentional, focused living.

Earlier in the lifespan I have a particular place in my heart for people in their teenage and young adult years as they proceed into an increasingly exciting, but stressful world.  I always wonder if I should share this with folks, but people who know me say they find this truth about me refreshing rather than negative. My sister, whom I love, once told me “you’re so good at working with kids because you never totally grew up”.  I think it’s O.K. to admit that she’s telling the truth.  For some reason I have an acute ability to relate to teens and young adults as if I still was one.  Believe me,–note the hairline in the pictures– I am not!  I believe that my perspective of youth, coupled with the truth, that I have lived a fairly long and blessed life and am the parent of a college student, offers me a rather unique dual experience with the kids that come into my office.  I know when to think and validate like a kid. I know when to speak as an adult/parent. And, I succeed in establishing myself as an objective, non-threatening adult in a child’s world.  Kids seem to find it safe to listen to my therapeutic perspectives.
