I work with a variety of conditions that are common to adolescents and adults who have experienced adoption including, anxiety and depression, trauma-related issues, relationship difficulties, grief/loss, and life transition challenges. I recognize it can be difficult to seek help, and I admire the courage that it takes. At the heart of my work with my clients is the belief that a trusting, collaborative, and empathic therapeutic relationship serves as the foundation for clients to improve their psychological health.

In my initial sessions with clients, we collaborate to explore their concerns and develop a shared understanding of the changes they want to make in their life. This process enables us to develop an individualized plan for therapy that meets each client’s needs. Through the process of therapy, I work with clients to expand their self-awareness, learn new ways to cope, and develop new, more adaptive ways of relating to others. My goal in my work with clients is to not only help clients decrease their negative symptoms, but to help foster clients’ feelings of connection, balance, and fulfillment.

Psychodynamic and relational theories serve as the foundation of my therapeutic approach, and I also incorporate aspects of family systems, developmental, and cognitive behavioral theories. My approach is considered integrative and combines these various theories, current psychological research, and a warm, collaborative interpersonal style to provide individualized care.

I completed my Doctorate at the University of North Texas in Counseling Psychology. In addition to developing broad generalist skills, I completed a unique specialization in Child, Marriage, and Family therapy within my doctoral training. I have served in various roles in the mental health field including therapist, researcher, clinical supervisor, and university course instructor. As a therapist, I have had the opportunity to work with clients across the age span in a variety of settings including, community mental health, hospital, college counseling, and private practice. I have also had the opportunity to complete clinical training within A Home Within and the Reese-Jones Center for Foster Care Excellence, two organizations that specialize in mental health care for children, adolescents, and adults who have experienced foster care and/or adoption.
