Meet Jenup

Black or African American
Jenup is an athlete – he plays basketball, football, baseball, and has started to compete in 5ks. He is pretty proud of his improving 5k times (just ask him and he’ll tell you all about it, including his strategy to start slow but steady, so he can save his energy for the final sprint). He’s a thinker in the way he approaches sports, but also in how he reflects on his life and goals. Jenup will tell you that “school is the number one thing” and he is doing great at learning new strategies to stay on task with his school work. He likes to play it cool, and sometimes puts on a tough guy attitude, but his kindness shines through as soon as he starts talking. He is friendly, thoughtful, and creative (he writes his own rap lyrics!). Give Jenup a basketball and some snacks (Arizona Lemonade and Hot Cheetos, please!) and he’ll be a happy guy! Or in his own words: “I’m curious, active, talkative, and goofy. I like to be active and my favorites are running, swimming, and basketball. My favorite team is the Golden State Warriors. I’m a good skater and like going to skate parks. I like to play games on the computer and listen to music. Right now I’m listening to Lil Uzi Vert and Kendrick Lamar. I like to hang out with my friends. My friends might say I’m daring, funny, and like to have fun. When things are challenging, I try to see my way through and make my own way to figure it out. My favorite subjects in school are math, science, and social studies. I had a 3.75 GPA last year and I’m shooting for a 4.0 this year.”

Jenup would like a family that is active and will help him continue to develop as an athlete. A family that likes sports, being outdoors, and playing together would be a great fit! Jenup wants a family that likes to do things together, like celebrate holidays and play games. It is important to Jenup that he stay connected with his three younger brothers and a family will need to support him to maintain these relationships. He’s open to older or younger siblings, and is used to being a big brother. Jenup has liked living in mid-size cities throughout MN, but he is curious about bigger cities and would be open to a move to the Twin Cities! Jenup needs to stay connected to his African American heritage and community, but is open to parents of any race. Most of all, Jenup wants a family that will commit to parenting him through all the ups and downs, and is able to provide consistent structure and support. A dog would be a bonus.
