Amie Summers, LICSW, SEP

(She / Her / Hers)

Among Amie’s firmly held beliefs is that we all possess an innate impulse for healing—within each of us we have exactly what we need to get there. All of Amie’s therapy sessions are designed to tap into this inner strength. Her goal is simple: to help clients live fully and happily in the here and now. Amie’s formal education includes a Masters of Social Work from Springfield College. She is a Graduate Social Worker, licensed by the State of Minnesota Board of Social Work.

Amie’s private psychotherapy practice specializes in children, teens, and young adults struggling with significant life events and transitions. She is able to help with a wide range of emotional and physical issues. Amie is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner, trained and certified through the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute. She helps children, teens, and young adults heal through re-regulation of their nervous system, utilizing therapy techniques such as sensory integration, body awareness, play, and dialogue. She has extensive experience working in pediatric hospitals, addressing the psychosocial needs of young people and their families.

“My beliefs about adoption include an understanding that ‘love isn’t (always) enough’. Children enter into their adoptive families with experiences/exposures that will affect them and possibly their ability to integrate into their new family system. Sometimes families require assistance in navigating/supporting those needs and in understanding the possible root causes of their child’s struggles, as well as guidance around how to begin building an attachment foundation.”
